MAGAZINE ADVERT

This is our magazine advert for the band. The shot shows the band in a playfully happy position fitting in with the elements consistent with music video itself. Also the background pattern is one used on the digipack so gives level of cross platform consistency. The image of the televisions directly behind the band is one used in the video so adds to the connection with the music video and the other media.
also the image of the band playing with the scaletrix is one that fits with the video stylized but playfully theme.

SCALEXTRIC SHOOT

one of the key features to the maccabees videos is a sense of playfulness used in there music videos, for example in the music video "latchmere" .
In own chosen song "precious time" the lyrics it makes reverest to playing Scalextric:

"take me down to light the box and play super Scalextric"

Therefore we are planning to shoot an sequence of a scalextric (a electric toy car) going around a track. This will be a different style of shot compared to the elements of color and highly stylized. We will use the shot to break up the performance and high concept shots. I have been researching techniques and styles of shooting car sequences for inspiration for our shoot.

this is our group setting up Scalextric shoot
The themes of this shoot link really well with the noughts and crosses shoot.

DIGI-PACK

This is the back cover of the digi-pack , it links to the front cover that had the reverse shot of the this one.
also the strong colours of the background contrast with the simple designs of the shirts.  the formal design of the also is contrast with the neon modern design of the repetitive background color pattern.

This is one of the inside covers and the creative design this gives the simple shot a more interesting design element. The colors in this shot give it a plasticised quality which adds to the design contrast with the background colors which are all the same on all the covers.

the front cover gives a surreal and bizarre view of the band which gives it a odd even humorous representation of the band. this was achieved by the braking of the convention to show all the band members full forms . instead the arresting image of a mainly headless band is giving a different and visually interesting view of the band.  we positioned our band in a formal traditional pose which contrast with the surreal elements of the shot also it creates symmetry with the repetitive background colours. also the rigid pose of the band is a direct contrast to the fluidity of the music video. a large majority of audiences would reconise the intellectuality revrense.
Our whole digi-pack design fits in really well with our video and magazine advert because of the circle geometric patterning in the background of the digi-pack covers. This links well with the circular effect of the fish eye lens used in the music video. Also the circular globes of the art instillation and the shape that the globes create also the circular doors and windows echo the geometric patterning of the digi-pack.

  • we feature the band members as playful
  • our use of bright contrasting colors

DIGIPACK ANALYSIS

this is the digipack for the MTV Unplugged in New York is a live album by the American rock band Nirviana . It features an acoustic performance taped at Sony Music Studios in New York City on November 18, 1993 for the television series MTV unplugged.

The soft colours and aged look are used to imply the interment feeling of the album . The album also has the conventional view of the band playing the instruments however he distorted out of focus lens on the camera has created a simple but effective ageing of the digipack . also the black and white photography on the inside and the colour on the outside creates an effect contrast making the digi pack visual interesting

Digipack analyisis

The name of the album is ‘Sonnambula’ and the artist of this album is Stendeck. Sonnambula is a music track and it was released in 2009. The strong largely colorless digipak design portrays the band as artistic and striking . The red roses on the plain background draw attention to them which is interesting as the color red connotes the passion of love but also the pain of loss. This implies the that the album is is going to be about the painful aftermath of love. furthermore the dark background around the red of the roses implies sadness and depression adding to environment of the dark digipak design.

this particular digipak is very different to many as it has a complete lack of any artist which usual feature. this is because music labels main aim is to promotion of the artists as a brand however this design has ignored this aprouch so is much more unconventional .  the images of the twigs are silhouetted reminscent of a war time photo.
